十一月号收到，看见第8页引蒲柏诗，前一半引对，后一半引错了。全文应是：To　err　is　human，to　forgive　divine.(An　Essay　onCriticizm，1.525)作者把后半改成to　pardon　is　God，并解释为“上帝才有资格宽恕”，都不对。对此行普遍的解释是：犯错人难免，宽恕最可贵。此行前两行是：Nor　in　theCritic　let　the　Man　be　losr／Goodnature　and　good－sense　must　ever　join.即言批评人错不可太苛，还得用宽厚的人性对待。
　　我正重读蒲柏，他的诗写得好极了，所以想起该将此事一告。
