A Study on the Psychological and the Behavioral Characteristics of Internet Use of Undergraduates and Their Characteristics of Internet Dependence

Abstract This research explores the relationship between 294 undergraduates' psychological and behavioral characteristics of their Internet use and their characteristics of Internet dependence through interview and questionnaire. The results show that there are gender and grade differences in undergraduates' psychological and behavioral characteristics of Internet use; there is significant positive correlation between different motives of Internet use and different Internet services; there is significant positive correlation between time spent on Internet use and Internet dependence， and besides that， different motives of Internet use and the actual use of Internet can significantly affect the degree of Internet dependence. The findings of this research can help undergraduates use Internet scientifically so that possible negative effects caused by Internet use can be avoided.
