The Shortage of Special Education Teachers
in America and Implications on China

AbstractThe shortage of Special Education Teacher is a hug e problem faced bythe American special education since the last two decades. While there are rela ted studies in China, these studies mainly focus on the success of the Americanspecial education rather than the problems and conflicts arisen due to its rapiddevelopment. Based on the information and data provided by the American officia l organizations and institutions, we investigated the cause of shortage of t hese teachers. The policies adopted by US federal government and states in handl ing this problem were also explained.
