The Understanding of Traits in Children's Theory of Mind

AbstractThe understanding of a child's traits i s a very important componen t of his/her theory of mind. The present paper summarized recent studies done inChina and in other countries regarding the understanding of traits in children.Findings in the acquisition of traits understanding in children, the understand ing of different traits by children, and the use of traits to infer and predicta person's behavior and mental states were introduced. While discussing the futu r e directions in studying the understanding of traits, this paper raised three is sues in research: how social communication and parental interactions affect theunderstanding of traits in children, the understanding of traits in children wit h special needs, and the methods in investigating the understanding of traits.
