Current Situation and Thoughts on Equity in
Education for the Mentally Retarded

Abstract The issue of equity in education has attracted soc ial attention among development ideals of harmonious society in China Today. The mentally retarded is the weakest group in society whose situation of equity in education should be attached more importance to. According to a research on situation of 216 mental ly retarded people's education, living and rehabilitation, some main factors aff ecting their equity in education have been identified and analyzed through the r elated materials from school education, rehabilitation education and training. A nd then some suggestions have been put forward from the aspects of policy interv ention, innovative development of special education and social support system.
